Bobbi Sigurdson, Director of Corporate Services

Bobbi is responsible for Support Services which includes Dietary, Housekeeping and Laundry, the Churchill Children’s Centre and the Northern Patient Transportation Program. Bobbi has been with the Health Centre since 2001 in various roles. Most of her career has been focused around business and finance. Bobbi was the CRHA Chief Financial Officer prior to this appointment.

Bobbi was able to obtain education locally through UCN (formerly known as KCC) as well as correspondence. Her education has also focused around business and finance in which she completed her Health Care Accounting through OHA (Ontario Healthcare Association). She has also taken Leadership and Management training which has shaped her into the leader she is today. She has recently taken LEAN training and is eager to start putting the training into use.

Bobbi is a true Churchillian and has a strong love for her community and the nature that surrounds it. She is an active community member and has sat on various committees and currently sits on the Duke of Marlborough School Committee as the Vice-Chair as well as the Churchill Parent Child Coalition. Both committees are focused on children, families and the community as a whole.

Charlene Cornwallis-Bate, Director of Integrated Health & Integrated Services B. N, M.A (Leadership)

Charlene Cornwallis-Bate has recently joined the Churchill Health Centre as the Director of Integrated Health & Integrated Services. Her portfolio includes Community, Acute and Long Term Care, Pharmacy, EMS, HIS, and Child and Family Services. Charlene is a key member of the team where she provides program planning, clinical expertise, and collaborative relationship building between acute and community programs.

Prior to assuming the Director position, Charlene was the Manager of Public Health Nursing for Sunrise Health Region, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where she was involved in projects such as expanding the LEAN process for daily management walls, standard work, and mistake proofing. As well, Charlene has worked in the areas of Public Health, Home Care, and Acute care as well as senior leadership roles. Her passion remains in preventative nursing and supporting and advocating for the vulnerable client.

Originally from British Columbia, Charlene holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters of Leadership/Specialization in Health. She has also been a clinical instructor for the University of Saskatchewan BSN program.

Laura Wessman, Chief Operating Officer, BSc. (biochemistry), BASc. (chemical engineering), MBA (Management of Technology)

Laura assumed leadership of the Churchill Health Centre in January 2015 and provides high level operational, employee development and strategic planning expertise in her role as Chief Operating Officer. Laura’s interest in leading cross-functional teams has developed through twenty years of working in progressively senior management positions within the private sector, including ten years as the Senior Vice-President of Corporate Development/Operations of Forbes Medi-Tech, Inc., a Vancouver-based NASDAQ/TSX listed biotechnology company specializing in the development of cholesterol lowering compounds.

As a member of the Regional Operations and Ethics committees of the WRHA and Northern and Remote Collaboration Executive Committee of the Canadian Foundation for Health Improvement, Laura is actively engaged in adapting best practice in health-care operating principles to the unique environment of Churchill with its rich cultural and natural history, special access to wildlife, remoteness and often extreme climate.
